My husband and I had a family business we had for many years. When economy took a turn for the worst, it almost put my family in bankruptcy. I had always had what I thought were great ideas, so I started doing research to learn how to take them to the next level.

When I started this, I had people tell me it was only a "Pipe Dream" and that inventing never panned out for anyone.......I set out to prove them wrong!!

I signed a licensing deal with one of the largest housewares companies in the industry in February 2011, not even two years after starting this journey!!

I showed my children that if you want something bad enough, you have to work for it, and I mean work hard. There were a lot of 15-18 hour days for me, reading, learning the industry, at the library getting books on patenting, and guess what? They know now "Don't Give Up On Your Dream"........I always say "There is nothing between you and success, but air and opportunity" So go out and get it!!

Mama Luvs Baby began in 2007. At the time, I wasn't pregnant, but I wanted a one stop shop with the best of the best products for moms to go for themselves and their baby/babies. A year later, I gave birth to my son on December 6, 2008, and a little over a month later, my husband deployed to Qutar for a 12 month deployment. So, I was left alone in Hawaii(of course I had family and friends to help me), but for the most part, it was me and my son at home 24 hrs a day.

Before giving birth, I told myself I would go back to work, as a special education teacher, after my son turned 3 months, but I fell madly, deeply in love with my son and decided to stay at home and watch him grow. During that year, I researched on products that would be efficient, productive, and affordable for me.. I need products that would act like a mom's assistant. I found several and then I started telling my friends.

On August 11, 2010, Mama Luvs Baby was born. I am primarily an online store, although, I have been hosting Mommy Parties so that I can network with other new moms, demonstrate how the products work, and for mamas to ask questions about the products or about motherhood. It's a great way to socialize and earn money at the same time.

I give FEAR 100% of the CREDIT for me starting my company. For me, it was fear that FORCED me to start my own company, not prevented me from it. The FEAR of REGRET was so much stronger then the FEAR of FAILURE that I couldn’t NOT do it. I knew that if I didn’t invent this product and start this company and 2 years down the road, I saw MY product on the shelves, that I would not be able to live with that regret for the rest of my life. I knew it would eat me alive every day I saw someone else making money on MY idea. Failure to me, sounded like a much better option, so I HAD to give it a shot. Even if I failed…I could say I tried and have no regrets. So when people come up to me (and they do all the time) and say…” I have all these great ideas but I’m just afraid to take that leap” my reply to them is “You are not AFRAID ENOUGH!”

I am currently, looking for ways to be able to work in the home. I've got 3 young adult males in my home and one in a group home. I'm currently, working outside the home and with the assistance of my youngest son being the only one that is working and helping out when he can, I find myself longing to be here in the home and being around them. I would greatly appreciate it if there's anyone that can give me some tips or suggestions as to what all I can do to make that dream of working in the home a reality. Like most moms my children were the biggest motivating factor for me starting my own business. I wanted two things from my business one to stay home with my then two year old daughter and two to create generational wealth for her and her now twenty one year old brother. Seven years later I'm still working hard to accomplish all that I can with the work I do all while being available to my children. I do work very long hours but I have the flexibility to be there as they need me. As I continue to push forward with my business I do so for the sole purpose of providing my children with a solid foundation for the future one where they have options. If I get this right their struggle and fight in life will be a lot easier as we will have the knowledge combined with the financial support they will need to realize their dreams. I think we can all agree that dreams are not free they come at a cost in the form of time, effort, creativity and finance. I started my business with very little to no money and as such it have bin an enormous struggle to find the will power to keep working at it each and every day. Having the financial support would have saved me at lot of time and alleviate some of the stress. None the less me having to do things the so call hard way have made me much smarter, competent, and stronger. I have come a long way from a girl that could not turn on a computer to the girl who never turns of the computer. I build my own sites, design my marketing materials and handle all my Internet marketing myself. Children they make us smarter, faster, and better; thank God for my two children they are everything about me that is good and true.

In 2007, I earned a Doctorate of Management in Organizational Leadership. I am passionate about women helping women and 3 years ago I realized that there were many local women networking websites. At the time, I had not found any that were international. These two women, especially Janet, inspired me to take action and get this done.

I have spent the last four years learning about how to go about creating a website, SEO, affiliate marketing, pretty much anything internet.

My career took a drastic turn when the economy took a dive (as has happened to many others). I am making 1/6 of what I made for years. I do have a job and am thankful for it, however, it is not what I want to be doing. For the past 2 years I have been creating or maintaining websites for others.

Let me start by saying if you have “it” in you, you’ll start “it” someday. Most entrepreneurs started their business not just because their ideas were good or they had the money to try something, it’s because they were born to be. I worked in the corporate world for almost a decade, and during that time, I even tried different things on the side. I still have a henna business on the side (www.DivineHenna.com) that I’ve been doing for the past several years. I knew that I had to finally say goodbye to my corporate job and it was a boon that I had 2 kids within a year and a half gap. Just being with the kids helped me learn a lot, and gave me different ideas in solving problems. I saw a void in the market where there were several parents who wanted natural, soft organic clothing for their kids, but just couldn’t afford it because it was way more expensive than conventional cotton clothes. So I just decided to make them. I knew I had the talent because I am very artistic, I’ve been doing different kinds of artwork all my life. The real urge to do something originated when I was shopping for a cool looking tshirt for my husband to wear for a rock show, but just couldn’t find one. So I just made one for him that created quite a buzz at the show, everyone wanting to know where he bought it. With this and some knowledge on conducting business, I quickly hit the road. My first love was psychology, and I was applying to grad schools when I became pregnant with my daughter. That pregnancy changed my entire perspective on my career. I couldn't bear the thought of putting my baby in daycare when my maternity leave ran out. I made up my mind to find a way to work from home.

At the time, my mother was in the midst of self-publishing a book, and I decided to help her out with marketing. I used the copy of FrontPage on my computer to build her a website. As I became more skilled and got a little experience putting a site together, I realized that I had found the perfect career for my personality and my desired lifestyle. From that moment on I learned everything I could about web design, development and online marketing.

Almost ten years later, I have a thriving business that I run from home.

Well I just tucked in my little inspiration! As many of you know our son Ty was born 3 months early and we didn't know if he was going to make it. He ended up being on oxygen for almost 2 years. Ty is the "Why" for my business and helping others in the same situation as myself was the "Why Not" for my business. Busy Breathers LLC concept was born almost 4 1/2 years ago and the product was brought to market back in December of 2008. Another inspiration for my business is Ms. Kim Lavine...I picked up her book "Mommy Millionaire" and read it from the front cover to back in record time almost 4 1/2 years ago about the same time I decided to make my dream a reality when I came up with the idea to design an oxygen carrying backpack. As a mother of 7 year old triplet girls, having attended my fair share of birthday parties; I have often watched hosting moms pick up all the gift wrap, bags and envelopes and throw everything in the trash. I knew that the greeting cards I just spent $4.00 on were not far behind. It was then I knew I wanted to create something fun and elegant, that would be affordable and most of all reduce paper waste.

I am grateful to my girls because I feel my creative side was released once they were born. I believe as moms we have so much on our plates we are always looking for ways to make our lives easier.

I’ve always had dreams of having my own business. I consulted as a technical writer twice, but I always chickened out and ended up taking a full-time position.

When I became a mom, I began working part-time as an English Professor, which is fulfilling and allows me to have a flexible schedule. But I also have dreams to make money and leave a legacy for my children. (My little boy has Autism, and I don’t know how much he will be able to support himself.)

I finally found a business that is perfect for me: web publishing. I publish websites (offering information and products) about my many passions. I’m able to work around my childrens’ schedule and be creative all day—perfect!

I just started, and I’m not making money yet, but I’m determined not to chicken out this time.

My inspiration - the fear of leaving behind my mentally handicapped only child destitute and alone, unable to care for herself and be dependent on others who do not care nor have the means to help take care for her.

I'm grateful to my daughter for giving my life meaning, a life where I am creative and productive with a purpose.

It was one of those moments in time that you hear so many people talk about. You never really planned to have a business but that idea was waiting to be birthed somewhere....and the Universe picked for this one!
I was helping my daughter plan her wedding. What we thought, at one time, would be a no holds barred celebration suddenly became a quest to help my daughter create the wedding of her dreams on a much tighter budget than we had hoped. It was no secret that the economy had hit everyone hard and we were no exception.
The guest list would not be compromised but we began to discover that there were ways to cut back without sacrificing the look she wanted. It did, however, require a little more time and effort. Instead of the $100 centerpieces, we found some beautiful ones for $10.00 a piece at a local arts & crafts store which we were able to embellish with ribbon that matched her décor. Her brother helped by designing the wedding invitations and printing them as well …and they were beautiful!
During this process I questioned WHY there wasn't a site that was dedicated solely to buying and selling all types of used wedding accessories and apparel.
With a lot of persuasion from friends we decided to take this idea and create "She Just Got Married" which, today, is so much more than an online resale boutique. It's evolved into a beautiful Social Community that celebrates newlywed women everywhere.
In addition, we are expanding the brand to include a sassy, fun line of Newlywed apparel that have already been a big hit in the Atlanta market! !

My children were my largest inspiration. My 3rd child has high-functioning autism and hated to see me go to work every day. He doesn't like it much now, but it's easier now that he knows Mom works from home - I'm only a phone call away if need be. My older children know I can be there for pickup in bad weather, and my youngest is starting school - so he'll take my business card in case of emergency also! My second motivator was my work; I wouldn't necessarily call a layoff a motivator (depends on the individual), but not wanting to sit around and wait for the economy to come back, I decided to hang my shingle!
