#4 - Screw Guilt

An Excerpt from THE MOMMY MANIFESTOI can tell you from firsthand experience that saying “no” to guilt begins and ends with saying “no” to perfection.

I know it’s hard to say no to perfection when we’re being sold perfection everywhere we look. From TV commercials to inane supermarket checkout magazines telling you how to have the perfect body and the perfect house, which you keep perfectly clean and perfectly decorated while you bake perfect cookies and serve perfect meals, all in an effort to sell you the products required to maintain perfection.

Enough with the unrealistic expectations created by Madison Avenue; not only can you not attain all the perfection you’re being sold, you shouldn’t even aspire to it.

This is what’s making millions of women feel inadequate. It’s time we took control of the messages being delivered to us in the media and shut down the insecurity factory once and for all.

We shouldn’t be reading so much about how much we weigh or how beautiful and young we can look or how clean our houses could be, but instead how to start and run successful businesses, how to take control of our financial destinies, how to make money.

The messages I want to see are about moms not being defined by the products they consume to conform to this ideal, but by the products they create to define it.

Nobody’s perfect and nobody can ever be perfect, so stop trying. If you can’t achieve perfection, you might as well achieve power, and controlling your own financial destiny is where the real power lies.
